Visiting Rinkeby School
Elisa Sohlman - Executive Director of Brazilcham Sweden and Daniela Mercury, President of The Sun of Freedom Institute, visit Rinkeby School. Rinkeby School: From Worst to the First! Brazilcham Sweden took Daniela Mercury, as the ambassador for UNICEF and UNESCO to visit Rinkeby School. Situated in Rinkeby, Sweden, where 90% of the citizens were born in other countries, the local school, which once held the record as the school with the worst educational level in Sweden, has become a model of integration, with students of 70 nationalities, achieving a high level of academic success. She could listen to the student and teachers and see the pedagogic work that has been acclaimed by international news media (as BBC and others) and which has received an European award for the prevention of youth crime. The school today, is, as a tradition, visited annually by the Nobel Prize Laureates. Daniela, who is also the Founder and the President of The Sun of Freedom Institute, took a lot of good memories from the visit. The Institute runs educational and development programs for children who live in economically challenged regions. Its teachers and advocates design programs that empower children, giving them the opportunity to appreciate their culture, be proud of their identity, and at the same time, promote human rights, peace and ethics and she went home wishing for a cooperation with Rinkeby School!
